Embedding Your Jupyter Notebook

It took a little bit of work but I finally figured out how to embed a jupyter notebook into your Medium blogs.

  1. Begin by navigating to your GitHub account and creating a new gist.
The vast majority of my pictures feature my foster dogs but I managed to dig one up of my mug.

2. Locate your saved jupyter notebook and drop-and-drop it into your gist. Make sure the file get saved as ‘“.ipynb” and not as “.txt” or “.py”. Finally, save your gist as either “Create secret gist” or “Create public gist” whether or not you wish to make it searchable. Don’t forget to provide a name for your fresh new gist.

The code inside the gist editor will appear as soon as your drop your JN file.

3. Once saved the end result should look something like this. If you wish to edit the gist for any reason the edit button will be your friend. Make sure you change from “Embed” to “Share” before you actually copy the link.

The link should look something like this:

https://gist.github.com/Kmysiak/0a29c19fe51bd7188c1394d09da37b7

4. Finally, navigate to your Medium story so you can publish this bad boy. Select the “Add and embed” option and paste the gist link. Once pasted, press “return” and wait a second or two and your JN should render

I’m definitely not the creative type (that gene skipped me completed and landed squarely in my brother’s lap) but if you’re new to JNs and would like a great intro into markdowns here’s a LINK.
